Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Asim Munir met Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and other senior officials in Tehran as Iran expressed distrust of the United States and called for an end to threats and sanctions before negotiations resume.
Pezeshkian said Iran did not trust Washington because of past broken promises and attacks during negotiations. He said Iran remained ready for dialogue but insisted that the US must first remove its threats and sanctions to demonstrate its commitment to diplomacy.
During the meeting, Field Marshal Asim Munir expressed concern over escalating tensions and stressed the importance of resolving disputes through diplomatic channels. He reaffirmed Pakistan’s willingness to help resolve the conflict and reduce regional tensions.
Iran’s Supreme National Security Council Secretary Mohsen Rezaei said Iran’s enriched nuclear material would not be transferred outside the country. He added that confidence-building measures and the fulfilment of Iran’s conditions were necessary before negotiations could begin.
Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf also said Washington could regain Tehran’s trust only by implementing Iran’s seven conditions presented in New York. He added that US threats and military moves would not change Iran’s strategic decisions.
Field Marshal Munir also announced that the Iran-Pakistan border had reopened, describing border issues as temporary and technical. He emphasised the importance of regional cooperation between the two countries.
According to an editorial published by Tehran Times, negotiations between Iran and the US remain deadlocked. Reports have also suggested that Pakistan and Qatar have prepared a proposal aimed at addressing the demands of both sides.
The editorial argued that despite Pakistan’s mediation efforts, progress towards an agreement remained difficult. It maintained that tensions would persist unless Washington abandoned its efforts to pressure Tehran into accepting unilateral conditions.
Meanwhile, Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar said at a Shanghai Cooperation Organisation meeting that Islamabad would continue its diplomatic efforts to reduce tensions between Tehran and Washington and support a peaceful resolution of disputes.
